Advancing direct-to-consumer internal trade

On Jan. 27, Wine Growers Canada (WGC), a national association representing the Canadian wine industry, came together with provincial wine industry associations in an open letter to Canada’s premiers on advancing interprovincial direct-to-consumer sales.

The letter, signed by WGC, Wine Growers British Columbia, Wine Growers Ontario, Wine Growers Nova Scotia and Ontario Craft Wineries, reads:

“Canadians are facing real economic pressure. At a time when affordability, consumer choice, and domestic economic resilience matter more than ever, your collective efforts to reduce interprovincial trade barriers are both timely and necessary. Through the Council of the Federation, Premiers have shown leadership in recognizing that Canada’s internal market should work better for Canadians, and that goods produced here should be easier to buy here.

One of the clearest and most practical opportunities to deliver on that promise is the creation of an open national wine sales market including a harmonized direct-to-consumer (DTC) wine delivery agreement made in July 2025 to develop DTC operating agreements/frameworks by May 2026.”

Andrew Peller Limited supports findings of new study identifying Ontario’s wine industry as a key driver of economic growth and job creation for Niagara Region.

Andrew Peller Limited supports the findings of a new Deloitte study identifying Ontario’s wine industry as a key driver of economic growth and job creation for the Niagara Region.

Ontario Craft Wineries, Tourism Partnership of Niagara and Wine Growers Ontario commissioned the report with Deloitte that reveals the Ontario wine sector is well positioned to drive sustainable economic growth for the region, the province and the country.

The Ontario wine industry plays a leading role, acting as an accelerator for economic growth and job creation. In 2019, it is estimated the Ontario wine sector contributed just over $1 billion to Canada’s gross domestic product (GDP), with the Niagara Region responsible for 90 per cent of the grape production. Through implementing best practices and policies, similar to those in leading global tourism economies and premium wine industries, the Niagara Region has the potential to drive at least $8 billion in additional real GDP over the next 25 years.

“For over 50 years, Andrew Peller Limited has been a proud employer and producer of quality wines in the Niagara Region, and is committed to supporting its long-term sustainable growth,” said John Peller, president and chief executive officer of Andrew Peller Limited. “We are excited to partner with all levels of government and other industry partners to realize the economic potential of the Niagara Region and all of Ontario.”

The full report can be found at uncorkontario.ca.
