A Different
 Experience
 Canadian beverage
 producers are
 partnering with
 cannabis producers
 to explore new
 beverage markets
 By Aaron Broverman
 With Canada’s legalization of
 cannabis edibles in October 2019,
 cannabis-infused beverages are
estimated to account for up to five per cent
of the Canadian beverage market – says
David Klein, CEO of one of Canada’s largest
 licensed cannabis producers, Cannopy
Growth – that translates to $1.3 billion.
It’s no wonder then that those in
the industry are seeing strong interest in
 products infused with Cannabidiol (CBD)
among large beverage makers and craft
 brewers alike.
“Two years ago, I would’ve said, ‘No, it’s
not popular at all,’ but now-a-days there’s
quite a bit of interest and I think that
interest is still a lot less than what it’s going
to be a year or two from now,” said Martin
Ivanov, manager of high speed separators
and food systems at Alfa Laval Canada – a
 multinational food and beverage processing
company that uses a proprietary machine
called the Alfadose that can infuse CBD
 into beverage products.
